Best Mac Mini For Plex Server

So, I just started playing around with Plex Media Server. I really like it, but my WD EX4100 seems to struggle a bit. I decided to get a Apple Mac Mini MGEN2LL/A Desktop (2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard Drive, Mac OS) to run as my media server. I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on setup. Is OS X server recommended? Any issues with using the EX4100 as the storage for the media? I have a Gigabit switch that everything will be attached to. Any advice you can give me would be great.

Most Macs will clear these hurdles easily; my 2012 Mac mini runs Plex like a champ. One or more large hard drives, internal, external, or network-connected, to store your media. A free Plex account. Plex Media Server for Mac. Plex Media Player apps for any devices you wish to use. Prepare your video and audio. If you have players capable of direct play you do not need transcoding on the server. Also transcoding 4k HEVC files is not trivial, if a Mac has a modern GPU it should be able to use hardware encoder built into the GPU but on CPU alone I'm unsure of what old Mac Mini would be suitable, if no-one here can answer try the Plex server forums.
