Moreover WhiteD00r was also relased for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G. Regular iOS 4.х works really slow, on these devices, while modified 3.1.3 has much more chances.

I have just managed to UNLOCK iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1 WITHOUT updating the baseband! It is fully working! NO FAKE!
DO NOT UPDATE YOUR BASEBAND IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY!
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ANY LONGER!

Users that have already updated can use this CFW to restore there devices. But they have to use redsn0w after restoring to jailbreak this jailbroken Firmware. I dont know why, but Cydia wont crash after jailbreaking the CFW!

Following you should notice!
If Cydia does not work fine follow these steps:
– Open SSH Connection via Cyberduck
– Insert cydia_1.0.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb in /tmp
– Now open your terminal of the SSH Client and paste
dpkg -i /tmp/cydia_1.0.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb– After this paste killall -HUP SpringBoard to restart your springboard!

5. As I understand it’s easy to make CFW without baseband with MAC PwnageTool. But i don’t have it and cant make it virtual OS because of old PC hardware. So all I need is CFW from PwnageTool with Cydia installed, not hacktivated, clean and clear for my 3G with iOS4.1 with old unlockable BB:) This realase is what i want or not?! How do you create this?!

   After I read your post, i’m curious doesn’t redsnow JB update BB? You suggest to restore with your CFW and then JB with Redsnow, why it’s not already JB with PwnageTool?! As I know, I cant use redsnow because of reason i dont want to update baseband!

6. What can I say… You right. Baseband wont update but… It’s unbelievable unstable build… Sprinboard crash a lot, for etc when i receive SMS (bitesms alert)… Build kernel wont support by Bootlance (it should if CFW made with PwnageTool). Part of icons on home screen sometimes disappear and even springboard restart or reboot wont help… Internet tethering wont work even i try to patch commcenter… This is peace of shit! 🙂

7. You was right mate. When i downgrade to 3.1.3 i remember who iPhone 3G really is!!! 🙂 Now it’s quite fast and stable device… Yes, perhaps it’s a last good iOS version for 3G…

   I did jailbreak/unlock since iOS 1.1.4 but never had such problems as now. Please help!

   iPhone 3G old baseband 05.13.04

   I was jailbroken and unlocked on iOS 4.0 and tried your proposed method:
   UNLOCK iPhone 3G 4.2.1 WITHOUT BASEBAND UPDATE

   I used pwnage tool to enter DFU mode, then restored the CFW via iTunes (newest version). Was not successful. Error message: unknown error 1600.

   I tried several times but I couldn’t make it work.

   Then I tried the official way and let iTunes update to 4.2.1 – I was hoping that I would be able to JB / unlock later. Now I am stuck with the “connect to iTunes” screen and it doesn’t let me continue / complete the FW-Update since I have no official SIM card supported by Apple.

   What can I do!??

   I am back on 3.1.3.
   Restore worked this time through iTunes without 16xx error, using your custom firmware 3.1.3
   As far as I remember i did it from Recover mode, not from DFU mode. It would be nice if you could add this information to your howtos for other users.

   • OK, as I said I am back on 3.1.3 jailbroken, however, I messed my baseband up before, it’s now on 05.15.04 and therefore can’t unlock with ultrasn0w. You are saying I can get to 4.2.1 UNLOCKED with this CFW restore:
     UNLOCK iPhone 3G 4.2.1 WITHOUT BASEBAND UPDATE.
     I didn’t succeed, iTunes unknown error (1604) occurs.
     What’s the exact preconditions for this method? Does it work from 3.1.3 or do I need to go to a different iOS version first? Which one? Do I start the CFW restore from DFU mode, Recovery mode, or what?

     A step by step tutorial and exact description of the prerequisites would REALLY help.
